First Bishop of Alleppey

Bishop Dr. Michael Arattukulam (17 April 1910 - 20 March 1995) was the first bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alleppey and an Advocate of the Rotae Romanae. His parents Andrew and Rosamma Arattukulam were members of the congregation of St. Antony's church, Perunnermangalam, Chennaveli. He was ordained on 29 August 1937.

Bishop Stephen Athipozhiyil (18 May 1944 - 09 April 2022) was ordained a priest at Mount Carmel Cathedral, by Bishop Michael Arattukulam on 5 October, 1969. He served as prefect of the diocesan minor seminary and as parish priest in Omanappuzha. After earning an M.A.in philosophy from University College, Trivandrum, in 1982, he was appointed rector of the minor seminary and manager of Leo XIII high school. He was also the teaching staff of St.Josephs Pontifical Seminary, Aluva. He also served the diocese as diocesan consultor and also as executive director of the dioceses social welfare society.
