Rough Sea Batters in the Coastal Villages of the Diocese of Alleppey.
Rough sea battered costal areas of the diocese of Alleppey as a result of the cyclone Taukate on succussive days, May 12, 13 & 14, 2021. Sea erosion continues to wreak havoc in the coastal areas of Chennavely, Ottamassery, Chellanam and Kandakadavu.
As a result, strong waves lashed coastal areas dumping huge volume of water, slush and debris in houses. A number of houses have been taken away by the sea in Alleppey and Chellanam.
Chellanam Hit
Several houses were either fully or partially damaged in Chellanam, Maruvakad and Kandakadavu in the northern part of the diocese of Alleppey which comes under Ernakulam district.
People already suffering due to the wide spread at with highest number of Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in Kerala are trapped and helpless finding no way to find a temporary shift as Government agencies are on war foot against covid- 19 in the second wave.
The diocesan authority is facing the herculean task of ensuring the life, health and shelter of the people. The diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. James Anaparambil, Rev. Fr Joy Puthenveetil, Vicar General, district collectors of Alleppey, Ernakulam along with Members of Legislative Assembly visited the worst affected area.
